Welcome to my website! You are my honored guest and I'm so glad you've decided to stop by for a little while. I'm a wife, mother, grandmother, and quilter who believes that memories were meant to be held in our arms as well as our hearts.
As a little girl, I was fascinated by watching my mom work at the sewing machine. Growing up, my mom made many of my outfits, and she even made outfits for my Barbie dolls! I still don't know how she managed to sew all those little, itty, bitty clothes... but she did!
In high school I took a home economics course and simply couldn't wait until we started sewing! I chose a drawstring skirt for my project; however, I was sorely disappointed in the end result... I never wore the skirt. Unfortunately, that experience poured cold water on my desire for any future sewing endeavors, but it never extinguished my longing to be creative.
Fast forward to 1988 and my first year of married life...my husband bought an old, used sewing machine and cabinet that we had found in the classified ads for $100. I bought a pattern and taught myself how to sew...step by step. It was so much fun making skirts, dresses, maternity clothes and eventually little matching outfits for my boys (that is, until they were old enough to realize they were wearing homemade matching outfits...).
In 2004 I made my first quilt. Again, the finished product was somewhat disappointing, but I didn't give up! Thankfully, I had mentors to guide and teach me in those early days of quilting. Today I am still learning about the wonderful world of quilting and actively try to digest as much as possible from experienced quilters through books, blogs, videos, instructors, and shop owners.
Mom always taught me that little things mean a lot, and that helping people feel loved and appreciated is one of the best gifts we can give others. She gave me more than just a love of sewing; she gave me a love of caring. She instilled in me a belief that we each have the ability to make a positive effect in the lives of other people. I find that one of the most fulfilling ways to celebrate people and give encouragement to them is by way of teaching and the work of my hands.
Even though I didn't always have the time to create quilts during those years of raising four boys, my passion for it never faded. Now that they are all grown up I am lucky enough to quilt to my heart's content...well, mostly.
I am so glad that you have taken the time to visit my website! Hopefully, you will find the time you spend here to be an uplifting part of your day, and will feel a little more encouraged to grow in your creative talents and skills...wherever you may be on that journey. Remember, whether you are a new quilter or a veteran quilter, we are all beginners in the sense that there is always something new to learn! Please look for me on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest.
